Martha Adelaide (Dobbins, Tate, Thornton) Amore East Lansing Died on December 5, 2013 at the age of 92, in Geneva, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Arthur and Jennie Elizabeth (Carter) Dobbins. She is survived by her son, Timothy Tate, daughters Monica and Lisa Thornton, son-in-law Charles Smith, and 3 grandchildren, Andrew Godbold, Zachary Smith, and Danielle Smith. Martha was a retired Departmental Analyst for the State of Michigan Department of Labor. She was a member of Trinity AME Church. Martha was active with the Lansing branch of the NAACP and served on the city of East Lansing's Planning Commission. Prior to moving to Michigan she lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she attended Schenley High School and sang with the Pittsburgh Mendelssohn choir. A memorial service will be held at Trinity AME Church in Lansing on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1:00pm. Memorial contributions can be made in Martha's name to Robin's Nest, 1819 Fargo Blvd, Geneva, IL 60134, a unique, private home for patients with dementia where Martha received excellent care during her final, peaceful days.
