David Blair Dobbin of West Chester David Blair Dobbin, 57, of West Chester, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. David was born in Hoboken, New Jersey in December 1953, and was the beloved son of Philip K. Dobbin and the late Carolyn Dobbin. He graduated from William Paterson University where he met his loving wife Bette Joy Dobbin. They were happily married for 32 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, daughter Lauren and son Zachary, of whom he was extremely proud. He is also survived by his brother, Philip J. Dobbin. Upon graduating from William Paterson University, he continued his education at Penn State University and earned his certification to become a special education teacher. David was passionate about teaching and was an educator for special needs students at Devereux for 32 years. David also had a passion for sports and he exhibited this by officiating. He was a P.I.A.A. Official for soccer, basketball, and softball for 32 years. Organizations he was involved in included the Brandywine Basketball Chapter and the Pioneer Soccer Chapter. One of his proudest moments officiating was working the P.I.A.A. Championship Game for the sport of soccer. In addition to officiating he was involved in sports as a coach. He coached his son in the West Chester United Soccer Club as well as the Malvern Basketball League. For two seasons, starting in 2009, he was the West Chester Henderson's Varsity Girls Soccer assistant coach. Another interest of David's was the Boy Scouts. He became involved in this when his son joined Troop 14. David has a special way of connecting with people and making a difference throughout his life. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate David's life Wednesday, August 3, at the United Methodist Church, 129 South High Street, West Chester, Pa. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, to honor David's memory, contributions can be made to the Henderson Girls Soccer Program, Henderson Athletics, 400 Montgomery Avenue, West Chester, PA 19380.
