|Birth: ||Dec. 9, 1740|
According to the 1936 W.P.A. Historical Inventory of this cemetery by Scioto M. Herndon (online at Library of Virginia), there was a gravestone for:
David Doak (no date, an early settler)
The memorial (see photo), also just lists his name and no dates.
In Dec 1740, Rev. John Craig baptized David Doak, the son of Samuel and Jane Doak, at the North Mountain Meeting House.
In 1765, David Doak was a land owner on the Southwest Beverley Patent map and lived beside my kin. Beside this plot is one for Samuel & David Doak, 220 acres in 1806.
In 1784 (Aug 17th, the Augusta Co court noted a Revolutionary War claim from David Doak for "23 days horse hire, 6 days wheeling public hire"
(A claim from his younger brother Robert also recorded)
According to his kin, "David Doak was born Dec 9 1740 in Augusta Co VA to Samuel Doak Sr and Jane Mitchell, both born Ireland, he married Jennet Alexander, 2nd he married Jennet Davis." That's Samuel Doak, the immigrant.
RD says: "David's last wife (he may have had 3) was Janet Davis. They had a son Hugh Davis Doak."
Bethel Presbyterian Church maintains this cemetery. North Mountain split into Bethel and Hebron. There are several Doaks buried at Bethel, but not Hebron (per FaG listing).
