Joan Briggs, 68, of Stroudsburg died Friday, Sept. 18, in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the widow of George Briggs, who died in 1981.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Anna (Farrell) Dixon. She was a resident of the Stroudsburg area for the past 40 years, and prior to that she lived in the Bronx, N.Y., area.
She was employed at the former General Electric Co. of East Stroudsburg for 20 years, retiring in 1992.
She was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church of Stroudsburg and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2540, East Stroudsburg, and the American Legion Post 346, East Stroudsburg. She was also a Gray Lady at the Pocono Medical Center for many years.
She is survived by a son, Robert M. Briggs of Bartonsville, two grandchildren and a brother, Thomas Dixon of Bethel, Conn. She was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence A. Briggs, who died in 1984.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 10:30 a.m. from St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church of Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Thomas D. McLaughlin as celebrant. Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven section of Laurelwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, 23 N. Ninth St., Stroudsburg.
