Burlesque and dramatic stock actress, Dix joined a chorus line in Baltimore and was featured for a number of years with Barney Gerard's "Follies of the Day." She also organized a band known as "Mae Dix and her Chicago Harmonaders," later starring in her own burlesque show in New York theatres. Dix also served as a wardrobe mistress for the stage shows "Pajama Game" and "Fanny." She started her film career in 1913 with Biograph Motion Picture Company while also appearing in the stage. Dix died from burns suffered in a fire at her Hollywood hotel.
