Charles "Chuck" Dix

MONTEREY - Charles J. Dix, 86, known to many as "Farmer Joe," passed away in Monterey, September 10, 2010, following a long illness. A native of Clovis, California, he had lived in Monterey County for over 60 years.
"Farmer Joe" was owner and operator of Joe's Trees in Salinas for 25 years, and had donated hundreds of evergreens to Salinas city libraries, offices and recreation centers. In 2007, he was honored by Mayor Dennis Donohue with a proclamation of service award. Also, he had owned several produce facilities in the Monterey Peninsula and Salinas.
He is survived by his wife, Bernardina "Dina" Dix; a sister, Jean Dix, of Coos Bay, Oregon; and a brother-in-law, Jose Cordeiro, of Pebble Beach. Also, he is survived by six grandchildren.
Friends are invited to pay their respects, Wednesday, September 15, 2010, from 4-8 p.m., with the vigil service at 6 p.m. at Bayside Community Mortuary, 1610 Noche Buena Street, Seaside. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, 1475 LaSalle Avenue, Seaside, Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Mission Memorial Park, Seaside.
