Mrs. Augusta Georgia Disque, 76, widow of the late Judge John H. Disque, died at her home at 1034 Forrest Avenue Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock following a long illness. Death was immediately due to pneumonia which developed Monday, and it came unexpectedly to friends and acquaintances.
The funeral was held at the home at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The burial was at Forrest cemetery, and nephews of the deceased acted as pallbearers.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Forney Hughes and one son, J.H. Disque, Jr., well known young Gadsden attorney. There are numerous other relatives in the city and county.
Mrs. Disque was born at Alpine, Ga., on the Alabama line, January 9, 1854, and was the daughter of Judge L.J. Standifer and Sarah Underwood Standifer. She moved to Gadsden from Centre with her family in 1869 and shortly afterward was married to John H. Disque, who was then a rising young attorney and who later was judge of the Gadsden City Court for nearly a quarter of a century. She was one of the oldest citizens of Gadsden.
In her early life, Mrs. Disque was very active in social and church circles. She was a brilliant musician and was rated as one of the most accomplished young women of the state.
Mrs. Disque's father, Judge Lemuel Standifer, was probate judge of Cherokee County for years and was widely known throughout this section. He was later United States commissioner here.
