Cherokee Tribute - May 22, 2009

Wanda Jean Barker, 72, of Woodstock, died Monday, May 18, 2009.

Service will be 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Rev. Bill Allen officiating. Interment will be held Friday, May 22 in Bristol, TN. at Glenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Barker was born in Duffield, Virginia to Lee McKinley Dishner and Venus Virginia Dishner. She married Harvey A. Barker in the early 1960s in Bristol, TN. She was an avid golfer and bowler. Mrs. Barker was a member of the Canterbury Country Club and bowled in leagues at the Marietta Lanes and Woodstock Lanes. When not golfing or bowling, Mrs. Barker enjoyed crossword puzzles, bingo, John Wayne films and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered by friends and family as a fiercely loyal woman who loved with all her heart.

Mrs. Barker is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Ann McKenzie; son, Harvey A. Barker II of Woodstock, GA; sisters, Leliar Mae Rutter, 86, Edith Aline Finkle, 80, and Betty Ann Mattson, 76, all of Bristol, TN; grandchildren, Erin Greer, Justin Greer, Brandon Barker and Brady Barker.

Contributions may be made to Cherokee County Humane Society, P.O. Box 2299, Woodstock, GA 30188.

Family will receive friends 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
