Gottlieb W. Dinkel

Gottlieb W. Dinkel was born in New Ulm, Germany, October 30th, [28th] 1868. At the age of 14 years, he and his sister, Mrs. Kate Heisiy [sic-Heisig] immigrated to the U. S. and came directly to Livingston County.

For the first six months he made his home with his brother Valentine Dinkel, in Marion township. In the [f]all of 1882 he went to live with Mr. and Mrs. Naverino Basing. Here he lived until March 8, 1895, when he was united in marriage to Emma C. Basing. To this union were born one daughter, Mrs. F. E. Weeks, and one son, Norman, who preceded him to his great reward in 1918.

During the first six years of their married life, they lived on a farm near Pinckney, after which they moved to the village of Pinckney. On July 1, 1901, Mr. Dinkel received his appointment as rural mail carrier, and has served his patrons faithfully for the past 31 years.

Emma C. Dinkel, his faithful help-mate thru the many years, was called home to her reward on Feb. 28, 1931.

For the past six months he has been in poor health but continued his work until Feb. 1, 1933. During the past seven weeks he had been a patient at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit where he underwent a serious operation. He was most patient and faithful until his Heavenly Father called him home on April the 3rd, 1933, at the age of 63 years, 5 months and 4 days.

His kindly nature will always be remembered by all his friends, and his worthy deeds shall never be forgotten.

"Call not back the dear departed
Anchored safe when storms are over
On the border land we left him
Soon to meet and part no more
When we leave this world of changes
When we leave this world of care
We shall find our missing Loved one
In our Fathers' Mansion fair."

Funeral services were held from the Community Congregational church Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. o'clock, in charge of the Rev. E. J. Berquist, minister. Burial at Pinckney.
