Harold L. Dine
Harold Leo Dine was born in New Buffalo on December 30, 1921, the second of the four sons of William and Millie Dine. He died peacefully at his home in St. Joseph on Friday, October 15, 2010.
He is survived by his four children – James (Linda) Dine of Irons, Michigan, Jene Wenzlaff of Stevensville, William (Kay Stickney-Dine) Dine of St. Joseph, and Danny Dine of St. Joseph; five grandchildren - Jennifer Zimmer of Augusta, Michigan, Julie Wenzlaff of Aurora, Illinois, Jason (Angie) Wenzlaff of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Emma and Claire Dine, both of St. Joseph; foster granddaughter - Liz (Ed) Mayle of Freesoil, Michigan; great-grandchildren - Josiah Zimmer, Sofia and Elsa Wenzlaff, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Lucille Dine, who passed away in 1999, his parents; three brothers, Eugene, Virgil and Wayne.and a son- in-law John Wenzlaff
He often told stories of his childhood on a Highland Avenue farm in Benton Harbor. His first job was driving the miniature locomotive at the nearby House of David. Harold served his country in World War II as an Army combat engineer in Europe, building pontoon bridges for the Allied advance. He was a Whirlpool Corporation manager for 30 years, retiring in 1977, traveling and making annual visits to Florida with Lucille. He enjoyed children's and grandchildren's events and activities. A lifelong Southwestern Michigan resident, he loved this area and was, with his Lucille, an avid walker in all four beautiful Michigan seasons.
Harold was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a dear friend who enjoyed life with vigor and good health. He was blessed with a wonderful sense of fun and good humor. He will be missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends from 5-7PM on Monday, October 18th at Starks Menchinger, St. Joseph, where prayer will be recited at 7:00PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 19th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph. Burial will take place in Lincoln Township Cemetery, Stevensville.
