KERNERSVILLE - Alvin Lee Dillon, 83, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, August 11, 2010. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, in Walkertown, with the Rev. Steve Autrey and Dr. Bobby Roberson officiating. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery. A native of Guilford County, Al was born January 10, 1927 to the late Emma Rachel Parrish and Logan Dillon. Al served his country with the U.S. Navy, after joining at the age of 15, during WWII. A Gunners Mate First Class, he served aboard the USS Crosley APD-87 with General MacArthur in the Pacific. He was a long time member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Robert West Sunday School Class. Survivors include his daughters, Kay Dillon of Kernersville, Mary Lu Spake and her husband, Danny of Shelby, Miriam Gail Wisniewski and her husband, Michael of Cary, and Penny Sue LaBrecque of Winston-Salem; sons, Tony Dillon and his wife, Toni, and George Dillon and his wife, Jane, all of Kernersville; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; his life-long companion, of 26 years, Glenda Winters of Kernersville; and their furry friend, "Sophie". Mr. Dillon will lie in-state at the Church beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday until the Service time. The family will visit with friends from 2 p.m. Saturday until the time for the Service at the Church.
