Elizabeth “Betty” Maxine Dilley, the daughter of George W. and Wilma (Richard) Toliver was born November 10, 1922, in Clio, Iowa, and passed away April 4, 2003, in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Growing up in the Clio area, Betty attended grade school in area country schools and high school in Humeson, Iowa, where she graduated in 1940. Betty was working at the Henry Field’s Beauty Shop in Shenandoah where she met entertainer, Buck Dilley, who was performing on KFNF Radio. They were married and to this union, one son, Matt was born. After working for several beauty shops around Shenandoah, she opened her own Betty’s Beauty Shoppe, which she operated for over 50 years. She also enjoyed her part time job of delivering the rural Sunday newspaper, which she did for several years because she enjoyed meeting the people in the country.
Preceding Betty in death were her parents; husband Buck Dilley in 1983; and brother, Richard Toliver.
Survivors include her son, Matt Dilley and Simone of Salinas, California; grandson, Jacob Benedict and wife, Julie, of Iowa City, Iowa; granddaughter, Amy McGargill of Shenandoah; great grandson, Nick McGargill, of Shenandoah. Also surviving is her sister, Helen Osborne, and nephew, Gary Osborne and wife, Marilyn, all of Clio; plus other relatives and friends.
