MRS. M. C. BAILEY

The grim reaper visited our city on last Friday afternoon about 1:30 o'clock and with his keen scythe severed the thread of life of Mrs. M. C. Bailey and bore her spirit away to immortality above.

Mrs. Bailey was an elderly lady, having climbed the mountain peak of this life, past the three score years and ten, and on the 27th day of September she would have reached her 80th milestone

She was the wife of L Bailey, who passed away in 1896. To bless their union to them were born 13 children, 11 boys and 2 girls, of which number eight survive her to mourn the loss of a mother's devotion.

Mrs. Bailey had been a consistent, faithful and life-long member of the Methodist church and was one of the oldest citizens of our city, she and her husband having moved here in 1870.

She was a woman devoted to her God, to the church, to her children and to her friends. She was beloved by all who came under the influence of her sweet, christian character, and the whole city mourned when they learned the sad news of her death, although not unexpected as she had been quite ill for some time.

Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church last Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock by Revs. J. A. Hall, of Greenwood, and W. N. Duncan, the, pastor of the Methodist church of our city. After the funeral her remains were laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery, beneath a bank of flowers, the last tribute of love and respect of loving relatives and friends. Her mortal body lies silent and still in the tomb in the city of the dead, but her glorified spirit is tasking in the sun light of heaven in the presence of Him whom she delighted to serve while on earth. She is gone from the homes of her sons and daughters, but she has left behind a precious, memory and an influence that will never die as long as time shall last.

To the bereaved ones the Times extends its heartfelt sympathy.

The children who survive her are: T. V. Bailey, Goodman, Miss.; S. E. Bailey, Bessemer, Ala.; Mrs. Walter Trotter, city; Mrs. A, J. Aven, Clinton, Miss., W. M. Bailey, Mathiston, Miss.; T. L. Bailey, Jackson, Miss.; Frank M. Bailey, Chickasha, Okla.; C. K, Bailey, Chickasha, Okla.

Among the out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Herbert, Lexington, Miss.; Garrett Herbert, Lexington, Miss.; Mr. and Robert Phillips, Jackson, Tenn., Mrs. S. E. Bailey, Bessemer, Ala.; Mrs. T. L. Bailey and daughter, Katherine, Jackson, Miss.; Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Whittington and children, Greenwood, Miss.
