Elgin Max Conrad Dietz was called home by his Lord and Savior on June 24, 2006, at the age of 85, after a 15-year fight with cancer. He was born in Fredericksburg on February 25, 1921, and grew up in Fredericksburg.

Elgin earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos. He served as a Marine pilot in the Pacific during World War II; worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in San Marcos, San Antonio, and retired while working in Rockport as the Regional Director for Inland Fisheries. He had a "second career" as a teacher at Rockport- Fulton High School where he taught science. He resided in Rockport/Fulton for almost 40 years.

He is survived by Ola, his wife of 62 1/2 years, and three children. He was the loving "Papa" for seven grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. He is also survived by one brother, two sisters, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral service were held Wednesday, June 28, 2006, with graveside services following at Greenwood Cemetery in Fredericksburg, Texas.
