Bessie Mae Bays, 75, of Terre Haute died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2006, in Davis Gardens Health Care Center. She was retired from the housekeeping department at Indiana State University.
She was born July 22, 1930, in Owen County to William Dicus and Jesse Rawley Dicus. Her husband, Francis Bays, died Oct. 15, 2003. Survivors include one son, David W. Bays of Terre Haute; three daughters, Florence Marie Hamilton and Shirley Mae Bays, both of Terre Haute, and Joanna Collins and husband John Collins Sr., of Marion; two brothers, Richard Dicus of Indianapolis, and Vernon Dicus and wife Donna of Linton; three sisters, Rosalie Buckallew and husband Dale of Indianapolis, Helen Fougousse of Jasonville, and Maxine Dicus of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren, Steve Hamilton, Annette Sullivan, Melissa Wilkinson, Holly Hoffman, Amber Bays, Danny Bays, Cassie Collins, Leslie Collins and John Collins Jr.; and five great-grandchildren, Kaleb Wilkinson, Halle Wilkinson, Jason Sullivan Jr., Autumn Cox and Tyler Hoffman. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Edna Basham; and two brothers, Joe Dicus and Jack Dicus.
She was a member of Bible Baptist Church.
Services are noon Thursday, in the church. Burial is in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, and 11 a.m. until services Thursday, in the church.
