Inscription

One of 82 soldiers who died and were buried at Bristoe Station, Alabama. The inscription reads, "On our way to camp we passed two groups of secesh graves, the one belonging to a Mississippi regiment and the other to the Tenth Alabama Volunteers. In the latter group we counted eighty-two graves. They had, as the head boards indicated, died during the months of August and September 1861. the names in some instances had been cut into stone with the names of the company and the time of death of the deceased. And these were Americans. It was truly a sad scene. Stephen Durkee, 7th Wisconsin Infantry, April 12, 1862"
