Melissa was born January 4, 1958, in Kosciusko, MS, daughter of Wesley and Elizabeth (Tac) Dickerson. She married Erle Chenney August 6, 1983. She was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church of Sallis, MS. Melissa was well known by her family and friends for her passionate love for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Win or lose she could always be found with a smile on her face, cheering loudly for the Dawgs, with her cowbell in hand. Even greater than her love for the Bulldogs was the love she had for her family. One of her greatest joys was family gatherings where she spoiled nieces and nephews and brought laughter and joy to everyone.

Melissa will be remembered for her love for the Bulldogs, her love for family, and her heart for serving others through her dedicated work at Oktibbeha County Hospital (OCH).

She is survived by her husband, Erle Chenney and her daughter, Betsy Chenney both of Starkville, MS; her mother, Elizabeth (Tac) Dickerson of Kosciusko, MS; mother-in-law, Ann Chenney of Starkville, MS; two sisters, Debbie Nail (Benton) of Kosciusko, MS and Christi Watkins (Roy) of Starkville, MS; sister-in-law, Carol Ann Dowdy of Columbus, MS and a host of nieces and nephews who lovingly called her "Lissa."

She was also preceded in death by her father, Wesley Dickerson and her father-in-law, Floyd Chenney and her God parents, Jamatha (Maker) and Jack (Doc) Dickerson.

The family request in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org.
