Barbara Sue Dickens, 76, of Tucson, died July 22, 2009. She was born March 16, 1933 in Lake Station, Oklahoma to Ralph and Pearl Carsten.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Thomas Dickens; son, Chuck (Kellie); grand daughter, Erin; grandson, Brett (Kristina); great grandaughter, Kyleigh; and grandson Bryant (fiance Jade). She is also survived by sisters Sadie (Delmar) and Mary (Don) and many nieces and nephews, located throughout the Midwest. She is preceded in deth by her parents and son Steven (2005).
Barbara spent most of her early life in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, where she met Tom even before her high school days at Central High School.
Barbara and Tom eventually moved to Phoenix in 1955 where she spent many years working for Motorola in the semiconductor industry and later in the mortgage industry.
During her nearly 40 years in the Phoenix area,Mrs. Dickens accumulated many friends with whom she stayed in contact over the years.
In 1994, the couple moved to Tucson to be near their sons and grandchildren. Over the past 15 years in Tucson, she loved spending time with her immediate family and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in baseball, softball, and basketball games.
She also loved the summers that she and her husband spent at the family's second home in Payson. "She was such a kind-hearted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be truly missed by her immediate family, relatives and many, many friends that she was blessed to have," writes her family.
A memorial service to reflect on and celebrate Mrs. Dicken's life will be held at 1P.M., Sunday, Aug. 1 at Bring's Funeral Home, 6910 E. Broadway blvd. in Tucson. And additional memorial service is being planned in Tulsa, Okla, for those relatives and friends located throughtout the Midwest.
