It is with great sadness we announce the death of Russell Devoe, 86, of Alder Point, a dear husband, father, grandfather and brother, who passed away Sunday, July 19, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Alder Point, Russell was the son of the late Frederick and Henrietta (Doucette) Devoe of Alder Point.
He was a member of St. Ann parish, Alder Point.
Russell was a fisherman in his younger years and worked at the Sydney Steel Corp. retiring with 33 years of service.
Russell will be remembered for his talent with woodworking, building his own home, making rocking chairs and building many model boats. He also loved to travel, especially by train. Russell will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helene (Theriault) Devoe, his children, daughters, Gale, Alder Point, Regena (Vincent) Serroul, Sydney Mines; sons, Fred (special friend Rita), Sydney Mines, Alex (Barbara), Alder Point; and his most precious granddaughter, Sarah Lynn Devoe. Russell is also survived by his sisters, Mary Fry and Mary Eva Ough; brothers, Clarence, William (Gertrude) and Thomas (Rita).
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Wilbert Joseph, sisters, Elsie Marsh, Della Gaskell, Bernadette Doyle, Margaret Chapman and Lucy Sebina MacDonald, brothers, Hubert, Ernest, Elmer, Charles, John Albert and a brother in infancy.
There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place at a later date. A memorial mass will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 22 at St. Ann Church, Alder Point, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. A reception to follow in the Alder Point hall.
In leiu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph Cemetery, Bras d'Or or to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
