Loses Life
in Plane Crash

Final Rites in
Genoa Today

Final services are to be conducted
this Tuesday morning at
10 o'clock from St. Catherine's
Church, Genoa for David William
Deutsch, 25, well known and
esteemed young farmer of rural
Sycamore and the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Deutsch, who was found
dead Saturday morning in the
scattered wreckage of his single
engine airplane, a Cessna 182, in
a cornfield, on the Earl Kinney
farm three miles east of Walworth,
Wis. The Rev. W. R. Warner
will officiate, at the final rites
and burial will take place in the
Burlington Union cemetery. The
rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Monday
in the Coultrip Funeral
Home at Sycamore, where hosts
of friends called to pay their final
respects, from Sunday afternoon
until the body was removed to
the church.
The Sycamore pilot took off
from his parents farm, north of
town around 8 o'clock Friday
night for Lake Lawn lodge at
Delavan, Wis., which is about 15
miles from where 'he crashed,
when on his return trip.
A motorist on the Town Line
road, just east of Walworth spotted
the tail of the plane protruding
from behind a barn on
the Kinney farm, and notified
the deputies.
Authorities stated that the plane
hit the ground at full speed,
throwing the pilot from the cabin.
One of the wings was found
119 feet from the point of impact,
and the remainder of the plane
was in a crumpled pile some 40
feet behind the wing. The
crushed body of David was located
nine feet behind the plane.
Sheriff Joe Dorr said, that
Deutsch might have been attempting
to land in a nearby field. It
has not been determined as yet
whether he had been having engine
trouble. The young pilot had
flown this same route between
Sycamore and Delavan many
times, meeting with a group of
friends at the lodge.
Deutsch was born May 29, 1934
in rural Sycamore and resided on
the farm all his life. He was
graduated from the Sycamore
High School in 1952. He and a
brother, Wilfred, assisted their
parents in operating the Ifamily
farm near Sycamore. He never
married.
He was president of District 1,
Illinois. Brown Swiss Association
and often times showed his live
stock at district and county shows.
He was also a member of St. Catherine's
Catholic Church in Genoa.
His tragic and untimely death
is mourned by his parents, his
brother, Wilfred, one sister, Mrs.
Bernard (Eileen) Montavon of
rural Sycamore and by many friends.
Preceding him in death were
a brother, Richard and a sister,
Pauline.
