Clarice Lavaughan Clemons, 96, of Grain Valley, Missouri passed away on January 29, 2009 in her daughter's loving arms. Visitation will be held from 5-6 pm, Friday, January 30, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with funeral services to follow at 6 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Miriam Cemetery in Maryville, Missouri at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2009.
Clarice was born on June 18, 1912 to George & Nina DeShazer in Parnell, Mo., She graduated from Ravenwood High School and attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College. she was united in marriage to Ellis Lee Clemons on August 1, 1931 and began a career as a farmer's wife, teacher and loving mother. Clarice served as Recorder of Deeds in Nodaway County for many years until retiring in 1973. She and Ellis moved from Maryville to Blue Springs to be closer to her family.
Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ellis; son, Jack Clemons; brother, Buel DeShazer; sister, Hope Thrasher; and granddaughter, Roxanne Starky.
she is survived by her daughter; Evelyn Stanton & Bill, Mo., sister; Jurel Jackson, Mo.; Grandchildren; Randall Stanton & Brenda, Mo.; Carla Prather & Joe, Texas; Janet Spellman & Mike, Mo.; Roger Clemons, California; Rhonda Clemons, California; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
