Charles Averil Derrick, 85, of Sissonville, went to be with the Lord July 7, 2007, at home after a short illness.

He was the son of William Lesley and Bessie N. (TATE) Derrick. Grandson of Elmore Marion and Nancy (HACKNEY) Derrick and William Avrial Tate and Nancy Jane BURFORD.

Charles was a Navy veteran, having served during World War II, and attended Maranatha Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

Charles loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed going to family and Naval reunions.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary HUDNALL Derrick; sisters, Bethel Thaxton, and infant Martha Derrick; brothers, Wilbur and William Derrick; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Derrick.

He is survived by children and their spouses, James Derrick of Reedy, Virginia DERRICK Gibson and husband James of Sissonville, Kenny and Susie Derrick of Mammoth, Donald and Mary Derrick of Pocatalico, and Sandy and Lando Agosti of Sissonville; grandchildren, Melissa Moss of Sissonville, Marylou Toole of Kenna, Nichole Derrick of Charleston, Mollie Tincher of Mammoth, and Charles David Derrick of Charleston; and seven great-grandchildren.
