Carrie Monteith was born on November 16, 1876, to John Ephriam Monteith and Martha Ella Higgerson Monteith. She married Edgar Deppe on February 21, 1895, in Randolph County, Illinois, and they had three children:
1) Everett Deppe, born December 17, 1895
2) Claud Deppe, born March 25, 1900
3) Larry Deppe, born c. 1903
The 1900 census for Percy, Randolph County, Illinois, gives Carrie's birth year as 1875. The 1910 census shows her to be the mother of three children, all of whom were still living. Also living in the household was niece Pluma Fisk, daughter of Carrie's sister, Clementine.
