Henry W. Denson, son of O. F. Denson of this township, was run over by an engine on the St. Paul tracks at West Madison at 6:40 p.m., Friday evening, and one leg was crushed to the hip. He was taken to the general hospital where he died shortly after midnight. Mr. Denson was a night wiper at the St. Paul yard at West Madison and resided at Greenbush. He had been cleaning away the cinders under an engine and stepped in front of the switch engine, which he could not see on account of the steam, when the accident occurred. An inquest was held Saturday and the jury brought in a non-committal decision. Six witnesses were examined but no important evidence was brought out. The jury stated the exact manner the deceased came to his death, but did not find whether his death was due to his own neglect, or the negligence on the part of the railroad. The deceased was a former resident of the village of Verona and conducted a harness shop for a time. He was an active member of the Baptist church and Young Peoples society and was held in high esteem by his associates and friends. He moved from this place to Paoli where he again entered business life and became a member of the local M. W. A. Camp and took out a policy for $2,000, which will go to his widow. Mr. Denson was 33 years of age and leaves a widow. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. L. Webster at Middleton Junction Sunday, and were largely attended.
