DENNIS, Mrs. Catherine, seventy-three years old, died Wednesday morning at Milford. Her home was at 2028 K Street. The body is at Castle, Roper & Matthews parlors.
Catharine was a tall woman with black curly hair and black eyes and had a 20" waist. She was the wife of Redford Hartson Dennis, they married 29 November 1865 in Janesville, Rock Co., Wisconsin. Redford and Catherine had 9 children, 8 girls and 1 boy. Her father was Reuben Santee of Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania and her mother was Elizabeth Drasher of Pennsylvania. Reuben was foreman of a mine, had a wheat farm and the family kept boarders.
Catharine and her two sisters baked twelve loaves of bread in an outside oven every other day. Being the oldest children, the three girls also worked in the fields. It is said that Catharine could carry a 100 lb. bag of wheat on her shoulder easily. She was a very hard working woman, a good cook and seamstress.
