Effrage Elizabeth Denman was born November 30, 1937, in Kennard, Houston County, Texas. The first of seven children born to the union of Valor D. and Lessie Mae Gilmore Denman – who both have preceded her in death.
She confessed her love for Christ at an early age uniting with Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Palestine, Texas. There she was an active worker, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and was active in the BYPU.
She attended Ratcliff School (grades 1-7) in Ratcliff, Texas and graduated from A. M. Story High School in Palestine, Texas. She attended Houston Tillson College in Austin, Texas and Harris Teacher's College in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
She made her home in St. Louis, Missouri for many years, making many new friends. Effrage was united in holy matrimony to Collie Lee Davis and to this union three children were born. She united with Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where she served many years.
In 1985 she moved to Los Angeles, California to begin a new career. She united with Ward A.M.R. Methodist Church where she was a dedicated and faithful worker until her untimely death on February 28, 1992. She was employed by Lockheed, IMS-PRWT.
She leaves to mourn, but cherishing her memory: a loving son, Cedric L. Davis and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Davis of Plano, Texas; two loving and devoted daughters, Sharon L. Davis of St. Louis and Beverly R. Davis of Plan; five sisters, Bernestine Garner of Pollok, Texas, Evelyn Joyce Lumpkin of Palestine, Texas, Jerry Bowens of St. Louis, Gwendolyn Sara Bell of Ft. Worth, Texas and Sandra Faye Mattocks of Saudi Arabia; one brother, Arthur Ray Denman of Ft. Worth; two grandchildren, Laquita and Calvin Davis; two very special wards in her care, Elliot and Phillio Goodman of Los Angeles; six aunts, Rosa Gresham of Los Angeles, Effrage Tennard of Palestin, Carolyn Simmons of Diboll, Texas, Dorothy Wallace, Mittie King and Jewel Denman of Ratcliff, Texas; two uncles, Royal and Chester Denman; one great aunt, Libbie Williams of Conroe, Texas; and mother-in-law, Mary Louis Betts of St. Louis; eight nieces, three nephews, and a host of relatives and many, many friends.
