Jerry Denman Bowens was born January 19, 1946 in Kennard, Texas. She was the fifth born of seven children to the union of Valor D. Denman and Lessie Mae Gilmore Denman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her aunt, Effrage Tennard, a sister, Effrage Davis, and Godson Kevin Polk.
She attended public school in Anderson County, graduating from A.M. Story High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy at Texas Southern University, Houston, Texas.
She joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at an early age. She united in holy matrimony to Tommy Bowens and to this union, a lovely daughter was born.
She was a registered Pharmacist in the states of Missouri and Texas where she practiced over 30 years in the pharmaceutical health care field.
She was a very diligent worker who also participated in public service as well as voluntary community services. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Ferguson Kiwanis, St. Louis Symphony Volunteer Association, Monfort Point Marine Association Ladies Auxiliary and a Board Member of St. Louis Pharmacist Association.
Family member who will cherish her memory are: one daughter, Leslie Donyale Bowens of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Ray Denman of Ft. Worth, Texas; four sisters, Bernestine Garner (Leroy) of Pollock, Texas, Joyce Lumpkin (Tommy) of Palestine, Texas, Gwendolyn S. Bell (John) of Ft. Worth, Texas, Sandra Mattocks (Clifton) of Austin, Texas; several nieces and nephews, and Godchildren Shantera Thomas of Birmingham, Alabama, Keonta and Victoria McMiller of St. Louis, Missouri and a host of cousins, friends, and neighbors.
