OXFORD – Charles Cobb Dempsey, 80, died Monday, June 16, 2008, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. Born in Choctaw County, he was a World War II veteran. He was a member of Anchor Baptist Church and a retired truck driver. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, and a kind and generous man who will be missed.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Anchor Baptist Church with the Rev. Gerald Shook officiating. Burial will follow in Anchor Baptist Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Nathalene "Nat" Arbuckle Simmons Dempsey of Oxford; three daughters, Debra Sanders and Glenda Harrell of Charleston, and Sandy Bishop of Oxford; two sons, Buddy Simmons of Water Valley and Gene Simmons of Conway, Ark.; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Leonard Dempsey; a daughter, Gloria Dempsey; two sons, Laney Dempsey and Ray Simmons; and by a sister, Bobby Wilson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the church.
