Alma Anita Delfino Pompton Plains, NJ
Alma Anita Delfino passed away on November 25, 2013 while residing at Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains, NJ where she had been a resident for the last 11 years.
She was the daughter of Angelo Giuseppe Delfino and Maria Giuseppe DiLanciano.
Alma was preceded in death by her brother, Louis and is survived by her brother, Naples resident, Joseph C. Delfino (Estelle). She is also survived by her loving nieces, Nancy Tucci (Peter), Patricia Bachman (Oren), Carol Delfino, Marylou Berk (Allen). Kathleen KC (Levinson); and nephews, Louis Delfino (Mary) and Joseph A. Delfino (Cyndy). She was the proud aunt of 15 great nieces and nephews.
Born in New York City (the Bronx) in 1925, she graduated from Hunter High School followed by graduation from Hunter College of the City University with a B.A. and a major in statistics. Some years later she earned a Master in Business Administration from New York University.
Alma began her professional career at the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the U.S. (currently known as AXA- Equitable) which she joined as a pension clerk and was later promoted to Senior Project Manager in the Systems Development Department.
She was eventually elected Vice President for Group and Health Operations of the company. Alma was responsible for directing the development of data processing systems for Equigroup, a sub-agency which provided life and health insurance for employees of small businesses. She also directed the development of pensions and regional support areas for the company.
For many years Alma was a fellow of the Life Office Management Association Institute and a trustee of the Cardinal Newman Foundation.
She was an avid reader and left behind a very large collection of books covering classic literature, the arts, religion and history. Alma was a generous contributor to her favorite charity - Covenant House in New York City. She also traveled extensively through the U.S., Europe, and China during her lifetime.
Services are being held at Pompton Plains and burial will take place at her parent's gravesite in St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx, New York City.
