Shirley Ayres, 75, of Russell, died Friday, Aug. 21, at Hays Medical Center. She was born June 9, 1923, to O.H. "Herb" and Bertha Deines at their home in Russell. Shirley met John T. Ayres while he was stationed at the Walker Army Air Base. On April 16, 1944, Shirley and John were united in holy wedlock at the home of her parents. These are but a few threads in the tapestry of Shirley's life. Her devotion to her family and friends will forever remain a precious memory.

Mrs. Ayres is survived by her four children, Maurine Johnson, Rita Gibson, Curtis Ayres and Debra Creed; three sons-in-law, Marlin Johnson, Randy Gibson and Richard Creed; 7 grandchildren: Kyle Johnson, Tracy Straub, Travis Gibson, Kendra White, Kaci Stratton, John Ayre and Kara Johnson; and 1 gt. Grandchild, Aaron White with a second one due shortly. Also surviving are her two sisters, Ramona Allison and Ramola Rennie. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her parents.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tues. Aug. 25, at St. John Lutheran Church, Russell, with Pastor Michael Fibranz officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Russell.
