William Deets Sr. age 80, of Perry died on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Dallas County Hospital in Perry. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, at Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. A private family burial will be in the Elkhart Cemetery at Elkhart.
William Myles Deets Sr. was born on May 7, 1932, in Winterset to Worth Horr and Mildred (Young) Deets. He graduated from Earlham Consolidated School and then studied Pharmacy at Drake University from 1950 to 1954. He obtained his license in Pharmacy in 1955 and was drafted into the Armed Services. He was united in marriage to Jacqueline "Jackie" Joy Clark on June 19, 1955, in Woodward.
After being discharged he returned to Iowa and worked for Murdy Pharmacy in Newton. He then obtained a position with the Wyeth Company and traveled the 10 counties of northwest Iowa until he took a job in Spirit Lake at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital as the Director of Purchasing.
It was there that he helped raise funds for the expansion of the hospital as an assistant to the administrator. After the administrator left, he then took the position for 20 years. During his time as administrator they installed the first small town CT Scanner in Iowa. He then moved to Perry in 1987 to be the administrator of Dallas County Hospital for three years after which he went back to Pharmacy and worked in Jefferson in the Dispensary Pharmacy by the Greene County Medical Center for 10 years and then finished his career as a registered pharmacist doing relief work in various pharmacies.
Bill loved photography and especially enjoyed taking pictures of buffalo. He also did woodworking and in his words was a "darn good hobby crafter."
Bill and Jackie enjoyed traveling and camping with their fifth wheel, and they were one of first life members of the Good Sam Club.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Worth and Mildred Deets, his wife, Jackie Deets, a son, Frank Deets, and a brother, Worth Deets.
Survivors include his sons; William (Janet) Deets II, Carriere, Miss., and John (Brenda) Deets, High Point, N.C., grandchildren, Brandon (Brenda) Deets, Melanie Deets, William "Myles" Deets III, Austin Deets, and Frank "Cory" Deets II and three great-grandchildren.
