Mathias Deer, who had been ill since last February, died at 6:45 o'clock yesterday morning at the family residence, 204 Lincoln street. His death was caused by a complication of diseases. Mr Deer was born in Baden, Germany, in 1846 and had lived in Lafayette for many years. He was a carpenter y occupation and was last employed in the car department of the Monon shops. He was a member of St Boniface church, the St Joseph society and the Catholic Benevolent Legion. He was an honest and industrious man and was an excellent citizen. He leaves a widow and the following children: Lewis, Bert and Edward of this city; Frank Deer of Muncie and Mrs John B Gruber of Chicago. The funeral will be held at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning from St Boniface church, with interment in St Boniface cemetery. (Lafayette, Indiana Morning Journal, Friday, July 13, 1912)
