Obituaries
Betty Jean Bates, 85, formerly of
Red Hook and Pleasant Valley, died
Tuesday. April 19 at the Baptist
Home in Rhinebeck.
Mrs. Bates was a member of the
Rowe Methodist Church, Rhinebeck.
She was born Oct. 8. 1902 in Stan-
fordville to Herbert and Augusta
Kilmer Dedrick.
She married John Van Wagner,
who died in 1936.
She later married Myron Bates,
who died in 1970.
Survivors include three daughters,
Janet Ohlson and Diane, both of Red
Hook, and Bettv Hanlon of Stanford-
ville; a brother, Floyd Dedrick ot
Providence, R.I.; a sister, Arietta Sil-
vernail of Pleasant Valley; and nine
great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Joyce Hedrick, died in
1985.
Arrangements were made by the
Burnett, Rockefeller & Hand Funeral
Home, 30 South Broadway, Red Hook.
Burial was in the Union Cemetery,
East Park.
Memorial donations may be made
to the American Cancer Society Dut-
chess County Unit, Hope Lodge,
Vassar Brothers Hospital, Reade
Place, Poughkeepsie. N.Y. 12601.
