Eleanore "Babe" Decker Coddington left this world peacefully on April 15, 2013 in Portland OR. She was born February 10, 1917 in Spokane, Washington to Katherine and Hardy Decker. She was the youngest of six children. Since she was the babe of the family, she became known as "Babe" through out all of her 96 years. She lived most of her life in a little house across the street from the Decker family homestead in north Spokane. As the last remaining member of her siblings, Darlene Manning, Ira Decker, Ruth Featherston, Alice Curry, and Dorothy Drewniak she let everyone know that she was the "Last of the Mohicans". Eleanore leaves behind her daughter Verline "Peachy" Coddington of Portland OR as well as several nephews and a large number of nieces. The love of her life was her family.

Eleanore attended Walt Whitman Elementary. She then became part of the first graduation class of John Rogers High when the old Hillyard High closed.

In her early working days she worked as a telegraph operator for the Great Northern and Union Pacific Railroads. She told of standing on station platform and holding a message out as far a she could so the Railroad engineer could snatch it from her hand as the large O'Malley engines rolled by. Later she worked for Dr. Ramsey DDS as receptionist, bookkeeper, lab tech, dental assistant and girl Friday. She loved to cook and sew. She and her sister Alice while roommates for 42 years made many beautiful quilts and afghans together. In her day she was a real "Babe" as well as a Fashionesta. Although she didn't pursue it she was also a talented artist. In her last few years she became the captain of the volleyball team just like she had been in high school. This team however was at the senior center and they played with a large balloon. A graveside celebration of her life will be held at Fairmont Memorial Park 5200 W. Wellesley Ave. Spokane WA on Friday May 17, 2013 at 3:30 pm.
