Mrs. Lena Keyl, 78, Ill for Year, Dies
Mrs. Lena Keyl, 78, widow of Prof. Ernest D. Keyl, well-known Lutheran professor who taught for many years in St. Johannes Lutheran school before his death, died at 5:45 p.m. yesterday in St. Mary's hospital after an illness of a year.
Mrs. Keyl was an accomplished organist and pianist and was active in Lutheran church circles before she became ill.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Moran & Sons funeral home and 2:30 p.m. in St. Johannes Lutheran church. Burial will be in the Lutheran cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
She was born on Aug. 13, 1865, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of the late Henry and Caroline Debuse. She was married in St. Louis to Professor keyl and the couple moved to New Orleans, La., where they remained for 20 years.
In 1911, Professor Keyl was transferred to Decatur and the couple made their residence here. Mrs. Keyl lived at 1365 North Clinton street at the time of her death.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. William Kern, Mrs. Edward "Mush" Augustine, and Mrs. Henry "Pete" Augustine, all of Decatur; three sons, Rev. Otto Keyl of St. Johns Lutheran church, East Moline, Ernest and Edgar, both of Decatur; 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
