ALLIANCE - Frieda Debus, 92, former resident of Scottsbluff, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Health Care Center at Alliance. Frieda was born May 22, 1911, at Rouche Harbor, Washington to Jacob and Elizabeth (Denies) Schlager. The family moved to Mitchell when she was a young child. She married John Debus on July 8, 1930, at Mitchell, Neb. They farmed together in the Mitchell and Torrington, Wyo., areas until 1964. They then moved to Scottsbluff where she worked at the CO-OP bakery along with being a housewife, mother, and grandmother. They then moved to Alliance in 1996. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, needlework, camping with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, playing cards, and was an avid Bingo player. She is survived by her son, Vernon Debus of Winner, S.D.; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Karen Debus of Alliance; daughter, Nancy Huckfeldt of Sheridan, Wyo.; brothers, Reuben Schlager of The Dalles, Ore., Robert and Harry Schlager, both of Cheyenne, Wyo., Bill Schlager of Torrington, Wyo., and Lawrence Schlager of Aurora, Colo.; sisters, Rose Schwartz of Honolulu, Hawaii, Hilda Heinrich of Chadron, Clara Costopoulos of Torrington, Wyo., and Wilma Ward. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 son-in-law, 2 grandsons, brothers, Walter, Victor, Alex, Albert, Elmer, and Ted Schlager, and 1 sister, Pauline Helzer. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at Alliance. Reverend Ron Nuss-Warren will officiate. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.
