Susan Reynolds Deats, 96, passed away peacefully in her own home in Ft. Worth on December 8, 2009, surrounded by her family.
"Susie" was born in Albany Texas on February 2, 1913 to Andrew Watkins "Jack" Reynolds and Bettie Herron Reynolds.
Her grandparents were Judge Benjamin Franklin Reynolds and Florence Rebecca Matthews Reynolds of Throckmorton and Sherrif Herry Heron and Alice Rucker Herron of Albany.
She graduated from Albany high School, where she was Valedictorian of the Class of 1930, and attended Baylor University for several years. In 1936 she married Otto Deats, also of Albany. The couple have two daughters Suzanne and Sarah. Otto worked in the oil fields all over West Texas and as construction foreman for defense projects until 1945, when they settled in Midland and he became a lease broker. They continued to visit Albany frequently. In 1967 , they moved to Ft. Worth, where Otto died in 1974. Susie dtove out to help her sister Alice Reynolds at Fandangle time every summer and visited her frequaently in retirement.
Susie played duplicate bridge several times a week in Ft. Worth until her eyesight failed. She loved books, especially biography, current events and Texas history.
Audio books and public radio made it possible for her reading to continue unabated.
