Darrel Gene Dearth was born in Ohio on May 22, 1938. Though his life was filled with various hardships, Darrel endured with dignity and endless faith. He attended Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, Illinois where he earned a degree in Theology. Darrel gave back to his community by preaching at the Turkey Run Christian Church in Turkey Run, Indiana as well as the Rousculp Church of Christ in Lima, Ohio. Darrel's interest and background in psychology, his compassion for others, and his innate skills in communication made him an ideal counselor to those in need- a higher calling he continued throughout his life.
God also gifted Darrel with music. He wrote worship songs and organized a youth group to perform in community churches. Darrel was also the lead singer, composer, and guitarist for his country band Heritage. Music for Darrel was a facet of his soul- one which he generously shared with others.
Due to various medical complications, Darrel had to retire early from his career in the aerospace field. Nevertheless, he continued to enrich his life with opportunities to serve others. He volunteered at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff Station in La Crescenta, California. There, he established the Clergy Program that supported both the deputy and sheriff staff and the local community.
Darrel was called to our Lord at the age of seventy-one on November 10, 2009. He died at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank of organ and heart failure due to complications from a perforated bowel, surrounded by family who loved him.
Darrel once said the most important things in his life were his three loves: his two sons and his wife. Darrel's love for his children was unsurpassed and continues eternally, transcending heaven and earth. Darrel led a complete life, leaving with his sons lessons he himself lived by; those of respect, loyalty, and generosity. He lives on in them, Darrel Joseph Dearth and Thomas Gene Dearth. He is also survived by his wife Jin Wang and his friend and former wife Betty Joseph.
