John W. "D.D." Deardorff, of Chambersburg, formerly of Biglerville, departed this life December 9.

He was the son of John W. Deardorff, Sr., and Beulah Lawver Deardorff, of Biglerville.

John graduated from Biglerville High School, and attended Gettysburg College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, and served in the 29th Infantry Regiment, receiving four battle stars for his services in the European theatre.

He was one of the first local officers to join Troop A, 104th Cavalry Squadron of the Adams County National Guard Unit when it was activated, and served as its Commander for several years. Under his command, the unit received the Eisenhower Trophy for outstanding unit performance.

After his military service, "D.D." joined with his father to own and operate the Biglerville Warehouse. He retired from the State of Pennsylvania's Rural Manpower department.

He was a life member of American Legion Post 262, Amvets Post 224, VFW Post 15, and a member of the Chambersburg Elks #600.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anna Miller Deardorff, Chambersburg; daughter, Dorothy Obenski, Delmont, PA; daughter, Cindy Bollinger of Gettysburg; four granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.
