Mary was born November 3, 1914, in Port Byron, IL, to Remi and Julia (VanDeVyver) DeWitte. She attended the Erie, IL area schools. She married Charles Ashpole on September 28, 1935 in Prophetstown, IL. He died April 19, 1992. Mary and Charles farmed in the rural Lyndon and Morrison areas from the time of their marriage until Charles's death. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Morrison and a former member of St. Catherin's Altar and Rosary Society in Prophetstown. She was in a bowling league in Erie. She and her husband started a Pinochle club of eight couples that lasted for 27 years. She was a member of the Morrison Hospital Auxiliary and Pink Ladies for over 25 years. Mary was an active member of Morrison Whiteside County Extension, serving as president for one term. Mary and Charles love to go dancing.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Bramm of Lyndon, IL; one son, Eugene, (Betty) Ashpole of Morrison, IL; nine grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; one son; Gerald; three brothers, Maurice, Silver and Henry DeWitte.
