Funeral services will be Fri., May 11, for Pietje Anderson, 99, DeSmet, who died on May 7, 2007, at the DeSmet Good Samaritan Center. The Rev. Richad Rinearson will officiate in First United Methodist Church at Huron, and burial will be in Altoona Cemetery, rural Hitchcock.
Visitation at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron.
Pietje DeVries was born on Aug. 27, 1907, in Holland to Albert and Egbertje (Scheenstra) DeVries. In 1910, she came to the U.S. with her family. She lived around the Springfield area and then moved to Broadland in 1919. She attended school in the Broadland area. On Feb. 23, 1927, she married Roy Anderson at Hitchcock. They moved to Huron in 1964. She was employed at Huron Cleaners for many years and at the Huron Nursing Home for 19 years in the kitchen. She moved to the DeSmet Good Samaritan Center in February 2007.
She was a lifetime member of the Huron Area Senior Centers and RSVP. She also belonged to the Ladies Aid of Fairfield Township. In 1995, she was named KOKK Mother of the Year.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene (Harold) Meester of Watertown, and Delores (Roger) Denman of Madison; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Susie Graham of Mitchell; a sister-in-law, Rozella DeVries of Huron; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy on June 16, 1973; two brothers, Henry and Arthur DeVries; three sisters, Bertha Miedema, Anna Wieting and Laura Lau; a sister-in-law Grace DeVries; and four brothers-in-law, Harry Lau, Steve Miedema, George Wieting and Walter Graham.
