Edward DeRita, 74, of 96 Inkberry Trail, a heavy-equipment operating engineer for the Gammino Construction Co. for 23 years before retiring in 1972, died yesterday at St. Joseph Hospital, North Providence, after a two-week illness. He was the husband of Jennie (Colardo) DeRita.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Ralph and Madalena (Zompa) DeRita, he lived in the city for 51 years before moving to Narragansett in 1960.
Mr. DeRita had also worked for several other construction firms including Fanning & Doorley and Campanella & Cardi.
His wife is his only survivor.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 8 a.m. from the A. Tarro & Sons Funeral Home, 425 Broadway, Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bartholomew's Church, Laurel Hill Avenue, Providence, at 9. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston.
