SOUTHBURY Mr. Attilio A. "Bob" DeMeo, 88, of Patriot Road, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Feb. 4, 2010, at Ashlar at Newtown with his loved ones by his side. He was a devoted and loving father to his six children, Robert DeMeo, Mary Ellen Schaefer, Donna Barshatzky, Anne Johnson, Edmund DeMeo and Lisa Day. In addition to his six children, he is survived by 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. DeMeo was born on Aug. 11, 1921, in Brooklyn, son of the late Rudolph and Emilia DeMeo (Bisaccia). He was a man of integrity with a strong work ethic and family values, which he passed on to all his children. Attilio was a 1944 graduate of Polytechnic Institute of NYU, where he earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering. While at college, Attilio was a member of Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity and the Bacchanalians, a community of engineers.

Over the course of his lifetime, Mr. DeMeo was employed by the government, as well as the private sector, and was passionate about his work in the field of engineering. Attilio demonstrated a lifelong love for education, which he instilled in all his children and grandchildren. Mr. DeMeo also found pleasure in playing his cello and repairing antique clocks. Those who knew him well understood his loyalty and love for family and friends, and those who were new into his life immediately recognized his gentleness and compassion.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury. Burial in Calvary Cemetery Woodside, N.Y. Calling hour is 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the daily chapel of the church. Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury.
