Elias DeLong married Malissa Sue Kimble on 21 January 1847 at Georgia.

Elias DeLong, a Frenchman, made shoes for the Confederate Army.

Yankee troops on arrival at Tuscaloosa, Alabama raided their family home and property devastating their livelihood.

The family moved to Texas following the Civil War in 1865, settling first at Hunt County, Texas.

The moved west from Hunt County, Texas as prospectors spending the night at the Clear Fork of the Brazos River. They were impressed with the country and turned their camp site into a dugout on the side of a hill. A log house was built, then a frame house. They put up a grocery store for incoming settlers, and when a Post Office was given, the settlement was named Eliasville for Elias DeLong.
