Adam DeHart was born in Rockingham County, Virginia, October 24, 1785, and was married to Mary Howard in Rockingham County, Virginia, who was also a native of Virginia and to them were born four children, as follows - John, the eldest, died in Illinois in August 1885, aged seventy-two years; Elizabeth is now the widow of Thomas Waters, and Allen. In 1825 (Adam) immigrated with his family to this county, and made a settlement on section 25, Wea Township, on the land now occupied by (his son Allen). He improved this land, and here he made his home until his death, which occurred about the year 1848. He was a member of the United Brethren church, and was esteemed by all who knew him for his honorable and upright dealings with his fellow-men. In politics he was Democrat. His wife survived him several hears, and died on the old homestead.
