Harry John Degear, 85, husband of Venice Riddle Degear, of Taylors, died Friday, March 9, 2012.
Born in Pitcher, NY, he was a son of the late Albert Leroy and Margery Broughton Degear.
Mr. Degear served in the US Navy and later retired from JP Stevens Trucking. He was a member of Monaghan Baptist Church. Harry was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Shriner and past Master at Judson Masonic Lodge #319. He was formerly on the Board of Directors of Greenville County Art Museum and was a W.O.W.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Barbara A. Minton, wife of the late William V. Minton, and Linda J. Hardwick and husband, David; son, Harry J. Degear and wife, Janice; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four stepchildren; eight step grandchildren; eleven step great grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters.
Mr. Degear was preceded in death by a son, Walter Leroy Degear.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 12, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Northwest chapel. Burial will follow in Graceland West Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Shriner's Children Hospital.
