Obituary:
Virginia BENDER SHULTZ, 63, of 303 Bond St., North Manchester, wife of former Rochester resident James SHULZ, died at 11:08 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Hospital at Fort Wayne of injuries sustained in a traffic accident the same morning at Time Corners in Fort Wayne.
Police said Mrs. Shultz had exited a Time Corners parking area and was attempting to turn left into the eastbound lane of U.S. 24 about 9 a.m. She apparently stopped in the middle of the westbound lane and her car was struck broadside by a pickup truck driven by Michael J. CLARK, 24, Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Shultz was born March 3, 1917 in Wabash to Harry and Elma DeARMOND. She had lived in North Manchester since 1936, moving from Wabash. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church at North Manchester, was an honorary member of the North Manchester Tri Kappa Sorority, and was a member of the Paul Harris Fellow Rotary International.
She married Todd B. BENDER on June 20, 1936; he died Nov.
19, 1975. She was married to James Shultz March 17, 1978; he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Barbara) SNYDER, North Manchester, and Mrs. Michael (Bernie) FINDLEY, Fort Wayne; three step-children, Donald E. SHULTZ, Rochester; James Todd SHULTZ, Litchfield, Ill., and Mrs. Jack (Johanna) McCLAIN, Huntington Beach, Cal; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; a brother, James L. DeARMOND, Wabash; and a sister, Mrs. Tom (Betty) MILLER, Rochester.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Bender Funeral Home in North Manchester with the Revs. David ROGERS and Paul BORG officiating. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery at North Manchester. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today. Memorials may be given to the North Manchester Rotary Club.
