George C DeArmond was born to Lawrence H and Lilly Powers DeArmond on Feb 11, 1917. George joined the US Army Air Corp during WWII and was a tailgunner on the B-25 Bomber with the 90th Squadron of the 3rd Bomb Group. While training at Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah, Georgia, he met and fell in love with Vivian Barbee. They were married on Jan 5, 1942 in Savannah. After a brief time together, George was stationed at Queensland, Australia. Three months later, while returing from a bombing mission, George's plane crashed into Mount Bartle Frere in a heavy cloud bank, killing George and all on board. In 1946, his remains were brought home to Ponchatoula and buried in the Ponchatoula Cemetery. He is back home now and rests near his parents and brother Earl Joseph DeArmond.
