Lee John Dayries, 64, of the 800 block of Madison St., died May 1, 1997, in Portsmouth General Hospital.

A native of Plaquemine, La., Mr. Dayries was the widower of Dorothea W. Dayries. He retired as a sailmaker from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 20 years and was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Linda McRae and her husband, Larry McRae, of Portsmouth; three sisters, Geraldine D. Jones, Gloria D. Robichaux and Brenda Bridgewater, and three brothers, Herman Dayries, Lloyd Dayries and Gerald Dayries, all of New Orleans; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church South Portsmouth by the Rev. Warren E. Amlet. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Viewing will begin at Corprew Funeral Home at noon today. The body will be taken to the church at noon Tuesday. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday for the procession to the church.
