BESCO

Elizabeth Besco, daughter of Forest and Lois Dawson, was born June 28, 1921, in Lucas County, Iowa. She passed away at Lucas County Health Center Nov. 3, 1999, at the age of 78 years after a long battle with cancer.

Elizabeth graduated from Chariton High School and received her Normal Training Certificate from Chariton High School. She taught in rural schools for 13 years.

On July 5, 1945, Elizabeth was married to David Besco at the Russell First Baptist Church parsonage. They farmed south of Russell until 1979 when David and Elizabeth retired from farming and moved to Chariton.

Elizabeth lived in Lucas County all her life, was a member of First Baptist Church in Russell, and enjoyed being an active farm wife.

Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara and husband Ken Hyman of Muscatine, Janet and husband Randy Sobotka of Des Moines; a sister, Margery Dawson, of West Des Moines; four grandchildren, David and Sara Hyman of Muscatine and Christopher and Megan Sobotka of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David; four brothers, Ted, Verle, Wilbur and Alfredo; and one sister, Mary Catherine.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Fielding Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Humberg and Pastor Randy Charlton officiating. Burial was in the Russell Cemetery.

Serving as bearers were Christopher Sobotka, David Hyman, Clyde Oxenreider, Garry Oxenreider, Burl Cherryholmes and Clayton Besco. Memorials may be made in her name to the Lucas County Health Center.
